This market has been described as “the prettiest market in Maine” by someone who knows a bit about farmers’ markets. Caitlyn Hunter, of Appleton Creamery, sells her goat cheese alongside more than 15 other farmers and vendors at Rockland Farmers’ Market. The market takes place at Harbor Park in Rockland. The name gives you a clue to why it may be one of the prettiest markets in Maine.
The market offers a full food shopping experience from maple syrup, honey and soap, to an abundance of vegetables, poultry and meat. There’s even an herbal medicine company, Herbal Revolution, that has joined as a new vendor this year.
All of the vendors are worth visiting, but some that stand out include Fine Line Farm, who are known for immaculate mixed greens and veggies of all sorts. Dandelion Spring Farm offers a wide variety of organic mixed vegetables, eggs, and dairy. Common Wealth Farm processes their own pasture-raised poultry and sells them super fresh (never frozen) at market for their customers, which has built themselves a loyal following. Bramble Hill Farm cultivates beautiful mushrooms and vegetables.
At Rockland Farmers’ Market, you’re in good company, whether it’s The Uproot Pie Company (hello amazing pizza!) or Atlantic Baking Company (a Rockland-based business). Not to mention, you’ll find friendly shoppers, farmers, and staff. The market has an information booth where you can shop with SNAP, credit, or debit.
The market accepts SNAP and offers Maine Harvest Bucks as a bonus to shoppers using SNAP to buy fresh fruits and vegetables. This year, the market’s SNAP sales have nearly tripled compared to last year. More Rockland area families are accessing fresh and nutritious local food at the market, and earning bonus dollars that they can spend on fruits and vegetables. “Feeding the community is what we’re all about!” says Jenn Legnini of Turtle Rock Farm, who is also the market’s treasurer.
If you’re in mid-coast Maine, the Rockland Farmers’ Markets can be enjoyed every Thursday, May to October from 9am to 1pm. There are many other mid-coast markets worth exploring, including: Bath FM, Boothbay FM, Damariscotta FM, Camden FM and Belfast FM. Check out our map to show you all the listings from Bath to Lubec.
