Job Title: Aroostook County Farmers’ Market SNAP Access Coordinator
Timeline: start mid-June, year-round part-time position
Compensation: $13.50 / hour (average 10 hours / week during summer market season (June – mid-October), average 6 hours / week during “off” season (mid-October – May))
Overview
Working in collaboration with the Maine Federation of Farmers’ Markets (MFFM), the Houlton Community Market Board of Directors, and other local partners, the Farmers’ Market SNAP Access Coordinator will play a crucial role in expanding low-income access at the Houlton Community Market. The position will coordinate all aspects of the SNAP and Maine Harvest Bucks program, including promotion, info booth set-up and staffing, communication, and record-keeping. During the off-season, this person will collaborate with MFFM to act as a liaison to other Aroostook County markets interested in operating a SNAP program, sharing program results and resources at market meetings and other venues.
Key Responsibilities
Directly oversee the info booth operations at the Saturday Market, including set-up, staffing, and clean-up.
Assist the Market with Maine Harvest Bucks SNAP incentive program logistics including promotion, fundraising (sponsorship solicitation, coordination of a “round-up” program, etc.), volunteer coordination, vendor education, and data collection.
Coordinate with local SNAP Educator and other aligned organizations to implement and promote shopping/cooking educational activities at markets.
Communicate with MFFM by email regularly and at least once per month via phone throughout the market season. (Communication to include required in-person and online trainings as needed.)
Assist Market board with coordination and implementation of year round fundraising initiatives to support the SNAP program.
Facilitate occasional communication between MFFM and market board and vendors regarding additional programs, such as Maine Farmers’ Market Snapshot Week.
Collaborate with MFFM to share program results and tools with other area markets interested in future implementation of SNAP and incentive programs.
