In response to the SNAP funding crisis, MFFM will continue providing Maine Harvest Bucks to SNAP participants at farmers’ markets regardless of whether your EBT card has any funds. When you show your EBT card at the Info Booth of any participating farmers’ market, you’ll receive $15 in Maine Harvest Bucks to spend on fresh produce. You can do this every time you visit the market in the month of November.
If you still have funds on your EBT card, you can continue spending them at the market, and the regular Maine Harvest Bucks match will still apply. See a list of all participating farmers’ markets open in the month of November below.
Maine Harvest Bucks is our food access program that makes shopping at the farmers’ market more affordable, and pays farmers the full value for their work. When fully funded, the program brings over $750,000 a year in direct sales to Maine farmers and food producers. Normally, when SNAP shoppers choose to spend their budget directly with producers at the farmers’ market, we provide matching bonus Maine Harvest Bucks just for fresh fruits, vegetables, and seedlings that produce food. 30,000+ participating Maine households get to eat more great local food, farmers get paid to feed more of their neighbors, and our communities and local food system are stronger because of it. SNAP shoppers are an essential part of Maine farmers’ markets, and we will continue to support you.
Not a SNAP shopper, but want to help? We need you. Maine Harvest Bucks is a highly efficient, effective food security and farmer support program. Due to a loss in federal Nutrition Incentive funding, the program is already operating at half capacity. Help us continue this essential program.
