Take urgent action for SNAP

10/26/25 Update: We sent the letter to Senator Collins’s office first thing this morning. Thank you to the 120+ farmers’ market vendors and organizers who signed in such a short window!

10/23/25

Earlier this week, we received official notice that SNAP benefits for November are cancelled. This is horrifying news for all Mainers who rely on SNAP to have enough food to eat. This includes the 30,000+ Maine households who are farmers’ market customers and an essential part of our community.

There are still a few things we can do. Senator Collins is in a strategic position of power as the Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, and could help either partially fund SNAP with emergency funds, or could move funds to fully fund SNAP, as was recently done with WIC. Senator Collins’s office values hearing from farmers, rural constituents, and small business owners. Please read the letter and consider signing by Saturday at midnight.

Note: This letter is from a specific perspective–please only sign it if you are a farmers’ market vendor, farmers’ market Info Booth worker, or farmers’ market organizer. If you are not one of those, please do not sign the letter–it takes us time to manually remove names. Instead, contact Collins’s office directly and voice your concerns: dial (202) 224-2523 . If the mailbox is full, try calling one of her regional offices.

Read the letter below, and then sign through the button at the bottom of this page.
