Local food systems, farmers’ markets and equitable access to healthy foods are all passions of Debbie’s. She has worked with farmers in their fields, grown food with teens in an urban garden, sold produce at farmers’ markets and farm stands, and helped found a farmers’ market that has become an important economic force in a depressed urban area. With professional training in forestry and extensive experience in community development, Debbie has worked in Africa and the Middle East as well as Idaho and New York. Most recently she was Director of Programs and Operations for a youth development organization in the Bronx building wooden boats and monitoring ecological systems with teens. Debbie is happy to have landed in Maine and excited to contribute to strengthening farmers’ markets through her role as Development and Communications Coordinator.
